Why I Changed My Major from Animation to Computer Science

When I first chose to pursue a degree in Animation, I was driven by a love for creativity and storytelling. Animation has always been a fascinating field where art and technology collide, and the idea of bringing ideas to life through motion was something I found deeply inspiring. However, as I progressed through my studies, I began to realize that while I enjoyed the creative aspects, my true passion lay elsewhere—deep in the logic, problem-solving, and innovation that technology offers. This realization led me to one of the biggest decisions of my life: switching my major to Computer Science.

The Spark That Ignited My Curiosity

Throughout my Animation coursework, I had opportunities to work with tools and technologies that introduced me to the technical side of things—whether it was scripting movements, designing algorithms for procedural animations, or exploring simulations. It was during these moments that I found myself drawn more to the "how" rather than the "what" of the projects. I began experimenting with coding and programming outside of my classes. I remember writing my first Python script to automate a simple task, and it felt like magic—lines of code creating real, tangible results. That moment stayed with me, and I started to see technology as a tool not just for art but for solving real-world problems and creating meaningful innovations.

Why Computer Science?

The field of Computer Science offers endless opportunities for exploration, creativity, and impact. What excites me the most is its versatility—whether it's developing intelligent systems, crafting beautiful and functional websites, or solving complex data problems, the possibilities are limitless. It feels like the perfect playground for someone like me who loves both creativity and logic. Moreover, Computer Science isn't just about coding—it's about problem-solving, thinking critically, and constantly learning. I realized that these are skills I want to nurture and use to make a difference in the world. It feels empowering to know that with the right tools and knowledge, I can create solutions that have a real impact.

Building My Future in Tech

Since switching my major, I’ve been diving headfirst into the world of programming, algorithms, and software development. It’s been a challenging journey, but every step has reaffirmed that this is the right path for me. I’ve started exploring different programming languages, worked on small projects, and even participated in hackathons—all of which have fueled my passion and confidence. My goal is to build a career where I can blend my creative mindset with the technical skills I’m acquiring. Whether it’s in web development, artificial intelligence, or full-stack programming, I want to create meaningful projects that solve problems and make life better for others.

Grateful for the Change

Switching from Animation to Computer Science wasn’t an easy decision. It meant stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing uncertainty. But looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the change. It’s given me a sense of purpose and direction that I hadn’t felt before. For anyone else contemplating a similar shift, my advice is simple: follow your curiosity. Don’t be afraid to explore, and trust yourself to take that leap when you feel it’s the right thing to do. Growth often lies just outside your comfort zone.

Looking Ahead

I’m excited about the road ahead. There’s so much to learn, and so many opportunities to grow. Through this blog, I hope to document my journey, share what I’m learning, and connect with others who share my passion for technology and innovation. Here’s to new beginnings and the exciting world of Computer Science. Let’s build, learn, and grow together!
